I currently have xp running (or did). I loaded Partition Magic's boot
manager. Had it running for xp. Then I created a separate partition for
win2000. I tried to load win2000 to the new partition on a separate
drive. It copied the files. But now the computer comes up with a
"Can't find 2000 directory or something."

Now when I try to go back to xp; the computer says the same message.

I am thinking that I can run the xp recovery console and fix xp. (Or
will it?)

But then how do I get 2k loaded...

Any advice on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

How do I install Windows 2000 after I've installed Windows XP?

The first thing you need to do is to ensure that Boot Magic is
configured to hide the non-booting operating system partitions. That
prevents cross-contamination.

When I was using Boot Magic my method for installing a new version of
Windows was:

1. Create the new partition with Partition Magic.
2. Configure Boot Magic to include the new partition on the boot
menu.
3. Attempt to boot the computer from the new partition. It will
fail, of course, but the new partition will now be configured as the
boot drive (C:) and the other operating system partitions with be
safely hidden.
4. While it is still at the "operating system not found" message
insert the installation CD for the new operating system and reboot the
computer using Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
5. The computer will now boot from the CD and install Windows on
drive C:, the empty new partition.

Note: Using the approach the booted operating system is always drive
C:, which is the way I like it.

Good luck

Thank you for the help. I got it fixed without issue. Reloaded the
NTLDR and ntdetect.com files and the machine booted just fine to xp. I
am not going to mess with setting up 2000. I have looked and my reasons
for doing so and no longer need it. Thank you for the help.
