I've done dual boot machines before but is there any way I can take a
drive from a now defunct Xp system and put it in a USB enclosure and
boot it on a new Xp system as a second bootable drive. The reason I
need to do this is one of the programs that I have on the old drive is
no longer available and I do not have the source disks. I really need
to use this old program.

No, I'm sorry. XP will not boot from an external drive. You'd have to do a
traditional dual-boot box with the old drive as one of the internal drives.
