Thanks, Nicholas.
Now, reviewing the info you gave me, and then looking at
the FDisk link in that page, it appears that if I already
have information in the hard drive I cannot resize the
partition, correct? Can I use Partition Magic? I have
used it before but do not remember with what operating
system. I guess I will have to check on the version I
have (sorry, rambling here). Does Windows XP Pro work wll
under Partition Magic?
I wish I could just "start from scratch" and run fdisk
then format, then install Windows ME, and then XP Pro, but
I am afraid my restoration disk from HP will re-create the
partition size it originally created (ie full drive). If
I do not use the HP restoration disk, I can just see
myself strugling to find the correct drivers, etc, etc.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Luis

| I am running Windows ME on a laptop with a 18 Gb
Hardrive,
| all of which is partitioned as drive C:, with FAT32
| format. I want to install Win XP pro as my main
operating
| system but wish to reserve a small part of the drive to
| run ME when using certain legacy programs.
|
| How do I do this safely. Will I have the option of re-
| partitioning the drive when I install XP? Will I be
able
| to repartition without loosing the data I already have?
| Can I move all the data I have to a certain corner of
the
| drive and keep it as FAT32, while using the largest
chunk
| of HardDrive real estate for NTFS, for XP Pro to run
in?
|
| Is there any Microsoft documentation available about any
| of this?
| Thanks
