If anyone would hve instructions as how to create a dual
boot pc for XP & Win2K it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm no expert, so read with a grain of salt.
I am running a dual-boot setup of Win2K / WinXP.
You might do well to readup on hard-disk partitions.
You should be aware of NTFS & FAT32 file systems.
You will need to create a partition for each Windows OS:
I had installed Win2000 first. So I already had my PRIMARY _active_
partition - drive C: of course. It was formatted to use Microsoft's
NTFS file system. I believe I needed W2K to be at Service-Pack 1 level
(or higher) so that it's NTFS file format would properly match WinXP's
newer NTFS format.
When I was ready to go for the dual-boot setup, I created a second
EXTENDED partition. Inside of this EXTENDED partition you can create
logical (mini)partitions. Since I already had my CD-drive as D: logical
drive, WinXP came to life on E: drive during it's installation. I
formatted the XP partition as NTFS also. No matter which OS I'm in, I
can see the drive/files of the "dormant" side.
Windows automatically takes care of the dual-boot for me. I get a
DOS screen on bootup, which asks me to select which OS I want to run.
Good Luck,
Winfield
