Hey everybody,

I have a Gateway computer that runs Windows ME on a 40 GB drive, a friend
of mine gave me a 20 GB drive that has Windows XP on it and what I would
like to do is install the second drive in the Gateway and be able to choose
which drive to boot from. I'm not worried about being able to access one
drive from the other. I just want to be able to choose which drive boots
without having to go into the BIOS everytime I want to switch operating
systems.

Usually they tell you to INSTALL WIN XP after you install the other
OSes that way WIN XP automatically sets up up a multi boot menu .

You may try hooking up both and see if WIN XP automatically detects
two OSes and creates a multiboot menu. Of course youve probably done
this so maybe it didnt work - duh.

In that case try typing bootcfg /add and see if it does it
automatically under RUN in the Startmenu..

If that didnt work try it under the recovery console as mentioned in
the link below.

If that didnt work maybe youll have to reinstall WIN XP though Im
pretty sure you dont have to.

I remember doing it once on a dual boot system wtth bootcfg.

Oh yeah - if you boot up with WIN XP you can read fat 32 and ntfs but
win me cant read ntfs last time I checked so if you want to see both
HDs - unless you now can with WIN ME , youll have to format the WINXP
with fat32

Thanks for the tip. This sounds more like what I have been looking for. I
appreciate it.

Licence issues aside, the chances of being able to run an installation
of Win XP from another PC on your PC are pretty slim without
re-enumerating the hardware. Unless it was the corporate version,
you'll also have WPA to contend with.
One way or another, you'll probably need a Win XP installation CD.
