Here's a toughie for you guys ...
Emachines T2080 with L7VMM mobo crashed. Replaced it with a Foxconn
K7S741 but it will not boot to the original XP Pro system. I loaded a
new copy of Win 2K and it now thinks it is a dual boot system but
still won't boot to XP. I'd like to recover the XP system but don't
have the original CD or recovery disk. Is there a way I can boot to 2K
and edit the registry for the XP system to boot using the generic
Windows IDE drivers instead of the L7VMM drivers? I was able to boot
to the XP system using ERD Commander from Winternals but don't know
how to delete the L7VMM IDE driver information. Any ideas how I can
save the XP system?

That is an EASY ONE.

You told it to Create A New Install of Windows 2000

But you didn't PERGE (delete) the initial C: drive

So now Windows 2000 - BOOTs to a 'Revised' WINNT Directory on your C
Drive.

Windows XP will create (and BOOT to) a Folder called Windows (to
maintain a Backward Compatability with Windows 98)

Windows 2000 will create (and BOOT to) a Folder called WINNT (to
maintain a Backward Compatability with Windows NT 4.0 ).

The GOOD NEWS is, you should still be able to access your personal
files - from your old 'User' Account" - in the "My Documents" Folder.

The Not So Good NEWS is, You Still Need To PERGE your 'OLD' Windows XP
'User Account' Folder. - after you have "Recovered" (and moved to
another location) all of you OLD files !!!
