Hi, bksalt.

You are not the first person with this problem. The solution may take
longer to narrate than to do, because of some of the terminology - and
because I don't know how computer-savvy you are.

The simple answer is to delete Win2K's boot folder, then run msconfig and
click Boot.ini | Check All Boot Paths.

Win2K's boot folder is probably C:\WinNT, but it may be C:\Windows. You
apparently now have one of each; Win2K is probably in \WinNT, WinXP in
\Windows. Open a "DOS" window and type: rd C:\WinNT /s

If that works, then you have just removed all of Win2K, including thousands
of files, dozens of sub-folders and maybe 1 GB or more of disk space. Do
the msconfig thing, reboot, and if it boots WinXP with no opening menu, you
are all done.

If the rd (remove directory) doesn't work, then you may be trying to remove
the WinXP boot folder, instead of Win2K's, and WinXP won't let you remove
its own boot folder. In the "DOS" window, type Set and you should see a
list of all the environment variables; SystemRoot tells you the name of your
WinXP boot folder. Or reboot into Win2K and do the same thing to find the
name of the Win2K boot folder; then reboot to WinXP and delete that one for
Win2K.

If you need details, post back, telling us what you did and what error
messages or other results you saw.

Hi, P.

You are correct, but unnecessarily so in this case. ;^}
XP DOES NOT HAVE DOS

That's why I enclose DOS in quotes when I mention a "DOS" window. Nearly
all the MS-DOS commands work here, apparently just as they always have. In
fact, many of us agree that the DOS emulator is a better "DOS" than DOS -
except when dealing with hardware.

DOS DOS DOS. I do hate to be picky but XP DOES NOT HAVE DOS. Please use
the correct terminology when giving advice if you can. In this case you seem
to be computer savey Bob so you should know that what you want the person to
do is open a command line window. start\run and type in cmd. This is not a
DOS window. I repeat not a DOS window. Although it "emulates" DOS behaviour
it isn't. Good luck.
