I dual boot with WinXP & Win2000. WinXP is my primary OS. I have
gotten a nasty piece of spyware in WinXP and won't have time to deal with it
properly for a couple of weeks.
How can I change and have WIN2000 be my primary OS on boot-up? I have
tried changing the order in boot.ini but keep getting error messages.

Hi, Wayne.

There are two easy ways. The first is with msconfig.exe.

The other way is to go to System Properties | Advanced | Startup and
Recovery / Settings. Set the default in the drop-down list at the top of
this screen.

In Boot.ini, "changing the order" under [operating systems] does no good at
all. You have to figure out which rdisk(#)partition(#) you want to be the
default and change the Default= line to match that. Remember that Boot.ini
doesn't use drive letters, but drive and partition NUMBERS. Rdisk(#) starts
with zero; partition(#) starts with one on each HD and includes both primary
partitions and logical drives. It's a good idea to edit the labels (between
the quotes) so that YOU can tell which Windows installation is which; the
computer doesn't use these labels, but they help keep us humans from getting
confused.
