Someone posted on a forum I visit that a Vista upgrade will KO your XP
Certificate.
Anyone heard anything like that?
Certificate.
Anyone heard anything like that?
But you can then re-install XP on another partition, right?
Or clone the XP partition first...
Unless MS is now set up to cancel the XP product key on the activation
servers. They just might be, if not now, soon.
Barnhorst said:I think I see what you are getting at, but it might not help. If the Vista
installer runs a validation against the XP activation hash like everything
else coming out from MS now does, then the servers are still going to report
an invalid XP key. I assume that a phone activation would then be required.
I think the activation center operators will give an XP activation if the
user explains that he is in the process of recovering Vista. I don't know
where this is all headed but I do know that this stuff has already been
field tested quite apart from Vista. So far as I know, MS has the
capability but has not yet turned it on except in controlled tests.
