Hi,
I just bought an AMD Duron 1.8GHZ PC and would like to install both RH
Linux 9 and Windows XP on it (dual-boot).
Does any one has experience that these 2 operating systems go along
together on the same machine with no problems?
I'd like the 2 OSs to be independent from each other (can't access
each other files).
Many thnx,
Tehiro

RH9 still uses an older version of LILO as a boot loader so you will need to
have a small boot partition

although it's not difficult to setup a dual boot windows/linux system...
you may want to look for a distro that uses either the updated LILO
or the GRUB bootloader

RH9 is kind of old. You might try one of its replacements: Fedora Core
1 or Fedora Core 2 (see fedora.redhat.com).

Hundreds of thousands of people have done that. It's not too tough,
especially if you just get a new hard drive for Linux (otherwise you
have to repartition your old drive). Instructions are included with the
Red Hat and Fedora distributions.

Use Mandrake 9.2 or Mandrake 10.0. RH9 was slow as molasses and it's
very obsolete now. When you install the OSes make sure that you install XP
first and then install Linux. XP doesn't provide any way of dual booting a
system unless you use a third party application like Boot Magic (comes
with Partition Magic. The Mandrake installer will recognize XP and set up
it's boot loader to dual boot.

that the best solution

RH9 has the option for both Grub and LILO.

Personally, I prefer LILO, and use it for tri booting Windows XP, RH9
and Slackware.

XP & RH9 are both installed on my partitioned 20 GB Primary drive (8
GB to XP, the rest to RH9) and I have no problems booting.

Slackware is installed on part of my 120 GB secondary drive, also
without problems.

As I pointed out, RH9 uses both Grub and LILO. I've been using the
version of LILO that comes with RH9 with success (but then, I've also
used the newer version of LILO without problems as well).
