i have just aquired an msi kd7 master mobo and 2x
athlonMP 2400 chips.
my problem is this....how come winxp wont show dual cpu
in task manager and system devices?
i have been to msi/amd and now here for a resolve on
this.when th comp boots it only shows 1 cpu bein loaded
but sisoft sandra and madonion 2001 benchmark show both
chips being present!!!
so far it would seem that my comp has only run in single
cpu mode as i have not noticed any difference over my
single athlonXP 2400...using 3d studio max,wen it should
be quite a significant boost in rendering etc.
is winxp pro truly dual cpu friendl;y or not?
any help here would be great...thanx

The answer's simple - you're running Home. Utilisation of dual CPUs is a
feature peculiar to Pro.

You need to do a repair install of XP so it can detect the second CPU.

Simply adding a second CPU to an existing XP Pro installation will not
work.

When you do the repair install it will add the appropriate HAL
(Hardware Abstraction Layer) so the second CPU will show.
