Hi,

My friend has a problem with their 9500 Pro setup. They run the card
with two monitors on windows XP. The card runs fine for about 3 or 4
hours but then the screen will go black for a second and then flick
back into windows without any user interaction.

This gets progressively worse until the PC has to be re-booted and then
left off for a few hours. If you switch back on immediately then you
still get the problem. Its as though you have to leave the card to cool
down.

I have no idea what to suggest to my friend now, does anyone have any
ideas what i could try or does it look like a hardware problem??

Thanks in advance

Ian.

Video cards tend to heat up quickly, so it wouldn't take 3 or 4 hours for
one to overheat, unless your friend has a large case that is also poorly
ventilated.

Do the monitors work fine when hooked up to another system at the same
resolutions and refresh rates?

I don't know if they do as he only has one systema and my card in this
PC only supports one monitor so can't try it on this one.

Anyone else have any ideas?

It sound like a heat problem, just whatever it is overheating takes 3 to 4
hours to overheat (weird?).
Does the 9500 Pro have a fan on it?
Could try adding better cooling for the graphics card.
Or just buy a used 9600XT or 9800XT off EBay.
