DSRM Password

Hello,

I have a server (Windows 2000) that had a duplicate Pricipal Service Name
listed in Active Directory. I followed an article to remove the invalid
Principal Service Name by using ADSI, and then I was to remove the server
from the domain (add to a workgroup) and readd it to the domain. I am unable
to use dcpromo because of a name mapping issue, so I learned how to use
dcpromo with a force removal. Before I did this step, I wanted to check the
password to sign on in DSR Mode. I went to check the Directory Services
Restore Mode password by booting up the machine in DSRM. The password was
incorrect, so I went to another article which told me to use the setpwd.exe
file in WINNT/System32 to change the password. However, this tool is not
working for me. I changed the password, it came back and said it was changed
successfully, but I can't logon with it when I boot in DSRM mode. I also
tried to use the ntdsutil tool from another server to change the password,
but it is failing. Does anybody know where this password is in the registry,
or a different way that I can overwrite it so that I can take care of the
rest of my issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
