I have a home PC (running Windows XP) connected to a DSL
modem and 802.11b network. Internet connectivity works
fine with this PC
I also have a laptop (Windows 2000) with a 802.11b network
card. This does not work well with the Internet.
Specifically, surfing the web (with IE) and using Outlook
for email are very slow (transfer rates of 500 Bytes/sec
typical). This PC works fine at work, just not at home
over the WiFi.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Guy

Hi Guy,

One very simple to check is whether your AP/router supports the 802.11b plus
and whether your card supports it too. In case only one supports there is
usually incompatibility and you might want to turn off the plus and just use
regular 802.11b. Other things could be range, interference etc.

Otherwise, with the limited info you have provided, it's very difficult to
provide any other suggestion. You might want to post more details of your
set up.

Thanks for your reply.
How do you verify 802.11b plus support?
My laptop is an IBM X30 with builtin WiFi
My Access Point is a Linksys 802.11b

You can log into your router and see if it supports 4x mode. Also the router
documentation might mention it.
