DSL Speed

Two Win95 SE computers connect to a DSL line thru a router. One processor is
300MHz (RAM 192 Kbits) and achieves 940 Kbits speed. The other processor is
1000MHz (RAM 500Mbits) and achieves only 340 Kbits. System resources are
about 70% free. Cables and router ports have been interchanged with no
effect.

I would like to correct this but do not know what properties of a system
affect the achieved DSL speed. Any help will be appreciated.

As the other reply to your post indicates you can go to www.dslreports.com
and run some diagnostics to find settings that can be adjusted (tweaked) to
get better throughput, but generally speaking, these tweaks do not actually
do much. Windows 95 is not the best operating system for fully using
broadband connections. Keep in mind that your machines are sharing this DSL
connection. When you add the speed of both your systems together you get a
total of 1280 Kbits. This is about what you can expect to get from a 1.5
Mbit pipeline, which I assume you have. This figure is almost exactly 85%
of 1.5 Mbits, which is what is reasonable to expect from a 1.5 Mbit DSL
connection. You will never (almost never, anyway) get 100% of the
advertised speed of your connection.
