DSL, SonicWall VPN & Outlook 2000 issues

I just moved to an area where cable modem is not yet
available. So I got SBC-YAHOO DSL. And my nightmare began.

Problem: Internet works fine. But when I activate
SonicWALL VPN client to connect to my work, my
communication becomes uni-directional. In other words, I
can not write to any network drives at work [error
message: The specified network is no longer available],
nor can I send any email out from Microsoft outlook [not
to people within the company, nor to external people.
Error message is as follows: Network problems are
preventing connections to the Microsoft Exchange Server
computer]. I also can access, copy from, and read files
out of my network drives at work.

Everything was in perfect working condition prior to
moving to DSL.

My environment:
- PPPoE account with SBC-YAHOO DSL with a SpeedStream DSL
modem
- HP Laptop running XP professional
- MS Exchange Server at work
- Sonicwall VPN client
- Microsoft Outlook 2000
- Laptop is directly connected to the modem.

I ran a test:

1. I took the laptop to a neighboring office, plugged into
their network, accessed Internet just fine, and then
activated VPN, and both way communication worked just
fine. That was of course not an SBC-Yahoo DSL line, it was
cable service, but at least I made sure that VPN is fully
operational from an external location.

I am tired of calling SBC support. Their first line of
support is a joke. Every time I call, they ask me to go
through the routine of shut down/power up sequence of
their modem and my laptop before escalation. I gave up on
them after a month.

Can anybody help me with this. My productivity is going
down the tube.....

What is the MTU size set to on your SonicWall? To test to see if this might
be set to high go to a cmd prompt
ping -l 1500 www.yahoo.com
if this works great, if not drop the packet size until it does work
ex: ping -l 1450 www.yahoo.com
ping -l 1400 etc.....\
once you find out what the max MTU size you can use without losing packets,
set the SonicWall accordingly.

If this is not your problem then please respond with a follow up post.
