dsl account and am given a public and private ip address.

have 8 win xp clients that are currently getting tcp/ip information from
windows 2000 server that has a dhcp scope set up on it.

i know that i will need to set up the server nic to point to the gateway
address. i also have added the gate way address to the dhcp scope.

is this the right way to go or will i need to set up ics for this type
network to get internet access ?

can the server with dhcp keep handing out this info and allow all the
clients internet access ??

thanks

Best route: don't use ICS. Get a router (ideally a router/firewall) that
does NAT. Look into a NetGear FR114P - it will allow you to share your
Internet connection and also help protect you from uninvited visitors.

good advice. I will make the recomendation for them to use this device !
in the interim can the ics be set up with only one nic in the server and a
16 port switch ?

Do you have to have 2 nics in the server for ICS or Nat to work ? This is
the question I keep coming back to on this.

THanks

Yes, you'd need two nics. Given that you can pick up the Netgear for about
$80 US, I would simply do it now rather than mess around with ICS (no sense
turning your only server into a router) and having to unconfigure it later.
