DSL router

I am trying to connect an XP machine to an Actiontec 1520
DSL router. It works on a 98 machine and an ME machine but
there must be a setting or something I am missing on this
XP machine. I cannot ping, I have plugged in a laptop
using that ethernet cable, so I know it works. Visi, my
isp is at a stand still, no help. Any ideas would be
great. thanks
 
Be sure all firewalls are turned off including the XP firewall. To see if
the XP firewall is turned on, go to Control Panel, then Network Connections,
right click "Local Area Network," select properties, go to the Advanced tab
and be sure the firewall is not turned on.

Is the XP machine getting an IP address from the router? To see,
right click the connection and click Status | Support.

If it's 169.254.x.x, that means that the network card isn't able to
communicate with the cable modem. In that case, try the steps here:
