Recently purchased Verizon DSL service, and attempted to hook it up to the
computer. The installation CD failed to recognize my ethernet card, and
thus insisted on using USB. When tech support walked me through the whole
thing, we verified that both the DSL modem and my network card were working
properly, even trying to connect on another computer to make sure it wasn't
the network card. Allegedly, it's a problem on Verizon's lines, and they'll
be sending a technician over to do some tests, however, I had a question,
and I figured I'd ask it here.
When trying to connect to the service, I watched the LAN status page, which
showed packets being sent, but absolutely zero being received. I usually
have the computer hooked up to a five-port hub, but this time was running a
cable straight from the DSL modem to my network card. The tech support
fellow pinged the modem and got back a few different numbers for hardware
addresses supposedly attached to it, none of which were the MAC addresses of
my cards. The lights on the modem said all was well, it just wasn't
talking. The computer even said that I had a 100 Mbps connection.
To me, it sounds more like they shipped me a busted modem, than anything's
wrong with my line or hardware.
Anyone know of any hardware compatibility issues?
