Have a notebook that has xp. AT&T installer put in the line and tested it
with his computer. He said it was working ok. Can't get it to connect. Does
anyone know what software is needed to make the connection. I have made all
the IE settings (per the faxed pages they sent) but the computer won't
connect. Their modem appears to be operational.
We have a regular computer that has xp and a DSL line with SBC which works.
It uses a software program that tells you when the DSL line is live and then
IE comes. When I click on IE the browser comes up but says the page is not
available "off line", which tells me IE is unable to connect to the DSL
line?

Any help would be appreciated.

In OE if you click the file menu button is "Work Offline"
checked? If it is try unchecking it.

Gene,
I've eliminated that problem. It rechecks itself when it can't find the
outgoing line. I've unchecked it each time to see if it will make contact.

When you say "appears" to be operational, do you mean the ADSL light on the
modem is continuously lit indicating it is connected. If the light is
continuous, all is OK there, if not the modem is not connecting. If the
light is on, then your problem lies with your computer being not set up to
log in to your ISP. Your ISP should give you all the help you require to
set up the dial up protocol and your password.
