Hi,
Start/run "cmd"
Run "ipconfig /renew"
See if that helps.
working well but when the computer stands idle for about two hours, I
must reboot to reestablish my internet connection.
That won't help. Running that at the computer will only *try* to renew the
license assigned by the router's DHCP server (of course, you must first have
executed "ipconfig /release *" so you have no DHCP-assigned IP addresses so
you can get new ones). If you need to run the equivalent of "ipconfig
/release *" and "ipconfig /renew", you'll have to do that from the router
(note the OP said they are using a router) which should have options called
something like "DHCP Release" and "DHCP Renew". But then if the connect has
been dropped you, well, aren't connected and have to instantiate a new
session.
See my other reply on how you configure an option in the router to prevent
your current session from getting dropped. Actually, since it is a
reconnect function, I suspect you still lose your session which then
instantiates a new session. Your IP lease from your ISP's DHCP server is
still probably good (i.e., hasn't expired yet), your router should renogiate
for a new one but if it fails and instead gets the fall-back IP address
assigned by the DHCP server in the DSL modem then you'll have to use the
above mentioned DHCP release/renew functions in the router.
