DSL connection problems

Matt

I'm swapping a W98 machine to a W2K machine and it
accesses our network through a DSL router, and connecting
to the router with Ethernet. The 98 machine works fine,
but the 2000 machine won't even make it to the login
screen unless the Ethernet connector is not plugged. Even
when I connected the Ethernet after logging in, it still
won't connect to our network. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like you have some very basic networking issues. Is your 2000 box
getting an ip address? This would be the first place to start. Also, it
would be helpful to better explain your network. Do you mean that you have
a DSL "modem" connected then to a router? What exactly do you mean by "our"
network?

Sorry about the vagueness, I work for a company and we
have a FDDI based network with about 600+ machines. And
yes, it is a DSL "modem" running into a router. The 2000
machine won't even get to a point where it would be
assigned an IP by the DHCP server. With the ethenet
connected to the NIC, Windows doesn't even make it to the
login screen. And, if you connect after logging on to
Windows, it just doesn't recognize the connection at all.

Try a new nic and/or driver, check cabling, connect a different pc to same
ethernet port/cable and see if you have same issue, etc..
