I work for a small ISP and we offer DSL service. Lately
every morning, many of my Windows XP users are unable to
go online. Sometimes when you disable the LAN connection
and then enable (after a hard boot of the modem and
computer) it works. The computer gets an IP and they
are surfing (albeit slowly). It does not necessarily
happen to those who have home networks. Later in the
day, the computers mysteriously begin to work again.
I see a coralation with XP and this problem and possibly
a user on the ADSL network has a virus but has anyone
experienced this problem before?
thank you

Sounds like a virus alright. I recently had this same
problem on a small network for a client. I put a packet
sniffer on the network and found random pc's sending a
jazillion small packets for a couple of seconds then
another pc then another. After doing a "netstat -an" on
each of the pc's I found the ports that it was using and
did a google search and found the culprit. I don't
remember the exact virus (I think it was "code red") but
it was bouncing around on the network so I had to
disconnect each pc and run a virus scan/fix on them one at
a time.

Hope this helps
