My HR Manager was shopping for a new cordless phone. Said sales person said
that 2.4 Ghz Phones interfere with DSL signals. Have not heard that. Kind
of off topic, but involves home networking. Anybody heard of this? How
about 900 Mhz? 5.8Ghz?
I am a Ham Radio Operator, and understand about high freq. interference, but
never about possible 2.4Ghz interference?

Thanks

Eric H.

2.4gHz phones can interfere with wireless networking gear since they both
occupy the same part of the wireless spectrum. But unless the phone or the
wiring is horrible I don't see how it could interfere with wired networking.

2.4 GHz phones will interfere will 802.11b and g wireless since they use the
same spectrum. DSL signals are overlaid on your traditional analog phone
line, I doubt you could get enough output from a cordless phone to effect it
unless you wrapped the cord around the phone antenna - which begs the
question why you would do that. Anyway, I imagine that is what they meant
to say.

Richard had it spot on! (or at least we agree about this item!)

One note, 802.11a use the 5GHz spectrum so it is unlikely to be effected by
a 2.4GHz phone at all. If you have a triple wifi chipset then you could
simply use the a portion to avoid issues. Not many folks use it.
