Dropped internet connection

I have no problem getting on the internet with either IE6, Firefox or Outlook
Express but if I leave the computer running and return an hour or so later
the connection has been dropped. I need to reboot the computer to get back
online.

I connection via a D-link DSL 504T Router - the other two computers that
access the internet via the Router have no problems at all - which would
suggestion that the fault lies with my main computer. I run Windows xp (home)
and use ZoneAlarm on all three computers. I also use Microsoft Antispyware
and Ad-aware on all three machines.

I have installed the latest firmware for the Router and re-set the router
following the guidance from D-link help desk. I have tried changing the power
Settings under desktop properties (screen saver/power button)

Any ideas - it is driving me mad!

Check in device manager..right click your NIC..properties..power
management tab and make sure "Allow the computer to turn off this
device to save power" is not checked.

I am grateful for Ricky's suggestion of removing the tick in the power
saving option in properties of NIC - but I had already done this - any other
ideas?

I'm having very similar problems (which I haven't yet solved) - only
one of my PCs has the problem - the other is always ok. One fo the
things I did to isolate the problem was to connect my "bad" pc directly
to the ISP (bypassing router). In my case I still had the problem, so
the router was eliminated from consideration.

But I must ask: have you solved your problem, and if so, what was it?

David F. Jenkins asks if I have solved the problem of dropped internet connection.

I certainly have stopped the problem and the only thing I have tried was the
security settings.

Control Panel - internet options - advance tab - scroll down to security
settings and put a tick in "Use TLS 1.0

This is the only change I have made so I am assuming this was the cause of
the problem!
