DROPDOWN WINDOWS APPEAR SLOWLY

If I click the 'Start' button, or a menu item (e.g File) at the top of a MS
application, it takes several seconds for the resulting window to fully open;
it fades in slowly. This is annoying as it slows down every process I do.
The problem doesn't happen with Firefox for instance (a Mozilla application).
I recently did a Microsoft upgrade, on all my MS applications. Does anyone
know if this is a problem or one of MS's 'enhancements'? Has anyone a
suggestion of how I fix it? Thanks, Thothage

Press the Windows key and Break Key together to bring up the system
Properties dialog.
Select the Advanced Tab and then click on the top Settings button (in the
Performance section).
On the tab Visual Effects there is a list of options which you can access by
clicking on the Custom radio button.
The second and third options in the list are "Fade or slide menus into view"
and "Fade or slide ToolTips into view"
Untick both those and OK your way out.

That should speed things up.
