I need the instructions on how to utilize a drop down list from a shape in
powerpoint. I have tried instructions online and I must be missing
something, because I cannot get it to work.

A bit confused here. Shapes don't have dropdown lists, though you can add
dropdown listboxes as controls on slides.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?
 
What "online instructions" were you following, Kevin? What you're asking for
isn't something that PPT can typically do.
 
be links to 10 different powerpoint presentations(100 presentations). I could list
all ten under each main category but I would like to have each main category with a
drop down list that shows the ten linked powerpoints for a user to select from. I
think this should explain this, if you need more let me know and Thanks for your help
it is always great.

If VBA is a possibility, you could create listbox controls on the slide, populate
each listbox with whatever names you like and have the listbox's Change event open a
different show.

If VBA won't fly, I think Shyam worked out a way of doing this with triggers in PPT
2002 and up. Shyam ... you there?
