Drop down menus

Up until today when I right clicked on a folder in the folder list in outlook
2007 I got a drop down menu. One of the options in the drop down menu was to
empty the folder. Today I still get the drop down menu but it looks different
and the "Empty Contents" option has disappeared. How could this change occur
and how can I get the "empty folder contents" option back

which folder? what acct type? it should only be an option on deleted items
and junk email folders.

I've tried the send/receive button and it says send & receive were
completed. I tried sending myself a message from Windows mail and Outlook
received it fine (which indicates there is no problem with my server - Cox
Cable). I'm not sure what you mean by profile but this is a POP3 home email
account.

Diane,

Folder - Junk email, it was a handy way to empty it, and believe me it needs
regular emptying.

Account type - No Idea, do not understand the question. It is a standalone
PC, outlook 2007 and windows Vista Business with DSL connection to a phone
company email service.

The only thing I remember doing between the times the menu changed was
downloading the email backup tool from the microsoft website, then when I
tried to copy the backup PST to an external hard drive I could not until I
shut down and re-started the PC (the main troubleshooting tool for us
non-specialists)- even then I got all sorts of warnings but I think it worked.

Anyway all I really want is to restore the "empty contents" option to the
Junk email folder drop down menu rather than waste your life (as well as
mine) with all the other frustrations of trying to operate a modern windows
PC.

Thanks

Whoa....scary stuff. I never even heard of switches till now, much less try
one. Tried what you said...in search box...it did an unsucessful search
....then switched to classic menu to get run box ...some other mesage
indicating failure ....and finally went to command box....another message
indicating nothing doing... So, assuming failure, and before I replied to
you, I just checked again in outlook and lo and behold....the empty option is
back.

I have no idea what happened, either losing it or getting it back, but I
have the result I wanted, entirely thanks to you.

I greatly appreciate your help but it does not seem fair that Manufacturers
support is so poor that I have to rely on your generosity when I need useful
help.

Thans again

Did you make sure there was a space in front of the slash?

No, did not notice that. I do not remember but I do not think any of the
apparent failures related to syntax. Do these switches work wih Vista ?
(there is no run box in the default menu). Anyway the drop down menu is back
the way I want, I have no idea why it changed or why it changed back again.

Thanks for the tip.

they do work in vista - also work in the search box - just ignore the
results it finds as you type.

outlook.exe /resetfolders

if the error is about not finding outlook.exe, you'll need to use the full
path to outlook. The easiest way when that happens is to find outlook.exe
in windows explorer and create a shortcut to it then edit the short
properties to add the switch. If you use switches much, place the shortcut
on quick launch or some place handy.

Thanks,

Problem is resolved.
