Drop down menus

All of a sudden, drop down menus at web sites I am visiting are NOT
accessible to me as they have been in the past. I can get to them by typing
letters on my keyboard but I can't see them by pressing the down arrow that
normally gives me access to the list. Actually, I just noticed that when I
select the "Start" button on my desktop, I don't see the menu that usually
comes up there either.

One thing that is different on my computer since yesterday is that I
downloaded the Spybot S&D freeware program. Could that be causing the
problem? While perhaps it is, I HAVE had this problem in the past (although
I don't remember how it got resolved). Any advice would be a great help.
Thanks!

Hi Karen,
Right Click on your Start Button and on the new window click on Start Menu
Tab, then click on Customize Button,on the new window click on Advanced Tab:
Start menu settings:
[ ] Open submenus when I pause on with my mouse. check this Option
[ ] Highlight newly installed programs ccheck this Option.
Click OK and close and see if you have the start menu listed.

On the IE window see if your Toolbar locked or not.

If no Joy, try system restore to an earlier date.

HTH
Please let us know your outcome.

Nass, thanks so much for your response. It turns out that a simple restart
fixed everything (thought I had done this already) but FYI, when I tried to
follow your instructions just to see if they would have helped me,
right-clicking my Start button did NOT bring up the menus you indicated it
would. There were some that were similar (e.g. a new Start Menu window
opened but "customize" started a wizard that was for appearances rather than
useful settings, etc.). Anyway, I seem to be "fixed" so I thank you again.

Nass, "properties" is not an option when right-clicking my start button. I
get "open," "explore," "search," "scan with Norton Anti-virus" and one or two
other choices but that's it. Just wanted to let you know but, as you said,
fortunately my problem is fixed.

Nass, I'm running Windows 2000 Professional. I did do what you said and
found the menus you were talking about, almost to the end. In other words,
once I got to the Start Menu Settings, they were a little different than you
described. But all is well anyway because my problem is fixed. Thanks so
much for your attention and assistance.
