Drop Down menu appears in French

I an working on a large document in Word 2003 with several saved versions.
When I go to the Header & Footer tool bar and click on Insert Autotext
everything in the dropdown menu is appearing in French, which is a problem
because I'm working in English. This only seems to be happening in my
current/recent versions but not in older versions. Does anyone know how to
fix this problem?

what is the language at the insertion point in the H/F?
