Can you link to a page and include a bookmark within that page?
When I try to do this and test it in the browser it goes straight to the
page ignoring the bookmark.

Can you provide the URL to the page with the bookmark

Did you name the bookmark "a href="#bookmark" (note the pound sign) and link
to it as <a href="page.htm#bookmark"?

This is an intranet site and the page in question is a HR secure area, hence
it is not possible to supply a URL.
Many thanks for your reply though.

Ok, can you show an example of the hyperlink that is not working?

The drop-down menu is on a document listing page. I am trying to include an
easier option to select specialist subjects like 'maternity', 'adoption' etc.
The 'value' would link to book marks on the same page. I have tried linking
to book marks only but this does not work.
Apologies but I am a novice...... Example link below.
Many thanks for your help it is greatly appreciated.

/HR_Secure-Authorised_Personnel_Only#HRSC-Death%20in%20Service

The "link" is invalid as
/HR_Secure-Authorised_Personnel_Only#HRSC-Death%20in%20Service
The 1st part must be a valid page as in:
/HR_Secure-Authorised_Personnel_Only.htm
The second part should not have any spaces in it (and is best for older browsers to be a max of 8 char)
#HRSC-Death_in_Service
So your link should look like
/HR_Secure-Authorised_Personnel_Only.htm#HRSC-Death_in_Service
