Driving me nuts !!

I have Earthlink cable provided by Comcast. Many times throughout the day an
"Internet Connection" box will pop up. I have checked the box that says
"Never dial a connection" but that doesn't seem to work. I am using Windows
XP. I have also gone on to tools>internet options>connections and checked
the box to Never dial a connection.
Anybody think of anything else I can try?
 
I've swept my computer for spyware and nothing showed up.

You may have a legitimate program that goes out and gets automatic
updates...that you configured a long time ago...and its still set up
for a dial-up connection. Look into these.

If you can't find any such programs, install a firewall...if even only
temporarily...that will block outgoing connections. You should then
get a pop-up that may tell you what program is trying to make the
connection.
