Mine named themselves.

Go into Explorer or My Computer, right-click on the drive and go to
Properties, and put a name in the box. It should stick.

Hi, DV.

Disk Management is the tool that we use in WinXP to assign and reassign
drive letters, including CD/DVD drives. There are several ways to get to
Disk Management; one is to type at the Run prompt: diskmgmt.msc

Windows assigns drive letters anew each time you boot up, using its built-in
algorithm. But, if you specifically assign them by using Disk Management,
it will honor your assignments. This works for all your volumes ("drives")
except the "system partition" (almost always Drive C:) and your "boot
volume" (if different). Disk Management will tell you which drives are
System and Boot.

I like to assign my CD/DVD drives to letters much further out in the
alphabet (V: for DVD? W: for a Writer?), reserving the lower letters (C:,
D:, E:...) for hard drive partitions - but that's up to you.
