My wife brought home a new laptop from work yesterday and I was going
to move some files over for her from her old laptop using my Dell USB
Memory Key. I put it into the USB port and the dialog box came up that
the PC found it but when I went into My Computer, it wasn't listed. I
then noticed that her internal DVD drive also was not listed in My
Computer. I put a DVD into the drive and it still didn't show up.
However, I was able to play the DVD using the installed DVD software.
I then went out to the DOS prompt and I was able to access both the DVD
drive and my memory key through the DOS prompt (drives D: and E:). Why
aren't these showing up in My Computer when they are obviously
accessible (I was able to copy files off the memory key in the DOS
prompt) and how can I get them to show up in My Computer for her?

Go to Control Panel, and use the Tweak UI powertoy there. On its My
Computer tab, make sure the boxes next to all the drive letters are
checked.

If you don't already have Tweak UI, you can get it from Microsoft's
website (make sure you get the correct version for your OS).
