drives mysteriously shared

Normally when a drive is shared, a "hand" will be visible which indicates
the drive was purposefully shared. However, my Win2k (sp4) computer
indicates that drives are being shared despite my not having asked they be.
For example, if I right-clik the 'C:' drive and inspect "sharing", it
indicates it is being shared. I can disable it, but the next time the
computer is booted the drive will indicate again that it is shared.

What's going on here? By design, as if Windows grouping enables this ...
or, is it something akin to a trojan virus(???)

You are probably seeing the administrative shares. By default, Windows
will create these shares, such as "c$" on the c-drive. These are used
for Windows functionality, and as an administrator you can also connect
to them through the network.

The shares are hidden, so users will not see them just by browsing
through My Network Places.

You can also disable these shares through a registry hack.
