i checked all the leads and they all connect to the
correct place. i even took the all out and put them back
in again myself. there are three leads for each drive. a
skinny wide one that connects to both, a four holed one
that also connects to both and a third one, which also
connects to both, is very small and fiddly. there is
however still no sign of this problem rectifying itself.
can anyone help????please??? cheers for your advice too
Daz. Chris Gibson

i have been using the drives for approx. 2years now and
the problem only happened about 3-4 days ago. i dont
understand what has happened. they are nowhere to be found
within my computer. cheers for any help you can offer.

Anything show up in hardware devices?
If a yellow check mark, remove device, one at a time, reboot see if it
reinstalls

all wires are fine as far as i can tel. the PCMCIA
controller has a exclamation mark in a yellow circle
beside it, should i uninstall it and then reboot? thanks
for ll your suggestions by the way, it is much appreciated

i uninstalled the PCMCIA controller which had a yellow
circle with a mark in it. it came back after reboot but
still has the mark and in properties it say "cannot
start - code 10". is that a big problem? the two drives
(D: and E:) still havent returned and install new
hardware says there are no connected hardware which is
not yet installed. i keep checking the wires but they
seem fine. the drives doors open and close fine.

The PCMCIA controler is for the pcmcia card slot, usually found on laptops.
The controller driver would likely be on yr mb cd, unless you installed a
PCMCIA card/adapter in which case it should be on the cd that came with the
card/adapter.
If you dont use this device you can simply disable it.
As regard the cd drives have you tried disconnecting one, ie all the cables.
If one is a std cd the other one. Reboot see if that helps.
Also check the ide cable, thats the, thin/wide cable, thats connects to mb.
Ensure its seated
The 4 pin cables are pwr, one end should go to the psu cable bundle. If
there is a spare pwr connector change the pwr cable to yr cd's to the spare.
