I installed Windows XP and lost both of my CD-ROMs. I
need drivers for my Philips CDD4801 CD-R/RW and also for
my Compaq DVD-ROM DV-5700B. Can anyone help !!??

Are the drives seen by the BIOS? Are they present in Device Manager,
possibly with yellow exclamation marks?

I'm not familiar with the models you mention, but assuming that they're
normal internal IDE drives they almost certainly use the default Windows
drivers. Looking for other drivers will probably be a waste of time. You may
have some bad registry keys:

"CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM Drive Missing After You Install Windows XP"

(In particular, trouble is likely if you do an upgrade installation onto a
system with Roxio Easy CD Creator installed. It would be safer to uninstall
it, upgrade to XP, and then re-install ECDC. This requires that ECDC be
version 5.01 or later; earlier versions are not XP compatible.)

Hi;

Reason: 2 burners on the same Pc with XP getting confused with all the
conter-indications in the registry. One is a plain CD burner, the other a
DVD/CD one.
That reaction is far from unusual: like a self-protect mechanism.

Generally you loose only one.
Once in a while you loose both of them.

Take one OFF the IDE cable and I'll bet you a glass of water the other will
report back to duty (redetected automatically or with a gentle
prodding)...that is provided they are jumpered properly.

XP may ask for its own installation CD if they were never listed.

? Anyway can you burn 2 different compilations or 2 different types of CDs
at a time?
