I have an IBM Thinkpad laptop that I have wiped clean and installed XP pro
onto. Iv downloaded the drivers for this >specific< laptop from IBM's
website. There isnt ONE driver that has taken affect on there. There are
different drivers to chose from of course and I have downloaded all the
correct ones to NO avail. All drivers offered from IBM are executable files.
Nothing changes once Iv gone the thru the steps and to make sure... Iv gone
to "Device Manager" and tried to get the laptop to see any available drivers
that way after I went thru the steps of loading the drivers thru the
executables.
Here's the laptop, its a T42......

and here's the drivers page..

If anybody out there has any suggestions for me I would DEFINITELY LOVE to
read all about them!!!!!

THANX N ADVANCE!!! Wayne B.

Did you click on the executables in order to start the install
process? Sometime, these executables only will "uncompress" the
drivers to another folder and you need to continue the install process
from that folder.

So you don't have any system reinstall media kit which is from IBM when you
get this laptop. Or you can just go to digitalsupporttech for getting help.

Haven't gone that route as of yet. Will do that within the next day or so if
Im not able to find a solution by other means.

These files are strickly executables, nothing archived & none are
compressed. Can't extract any files or folders from the drivers that are
available for this notebook.

The point is that after you run the executable, you may need to take the
further step of opening the folder it created and run *another*
executable file (often called setup.exe). If there is no executable file
in that folder, there should be an .inf file that you need to navigate
to from Device Manager. See this page:

The bottom line is that downloading isn't enough. They need to be
installed! :-) The methods listed above should help you getting them
installed. That is, simply running the executable you downloaded doesn't
always set into motion the installation process, and you need to
manually install the driver on your own. HTH.
