Hello,
I am having a problem where drivers will not install automatically anymore
when a new device is connected. They used to and then all of a sudden it
stopped happening. After googleing this problem it seems it is happening to a
lot of people, however I could not find a solution to this problem. When a
device is connected Windows Update is searched for a driver and then the user
is prompted for the CD that came with the device. If anyone has a fix for
this it would be very helpful to myself and the thousands of others having
this problem.

Thank you.

I'd like to find the answer too. What devices exactly are giving you
this trouble? USB and CD/DVD devices seem to be the trouble makers,
AFAICT.

Can you think of any software you installed just before the trouble
started? What about updates from MS?

My solution this problem , uninstall all applications of NOKIA ( in my Case)
, now works fine all devices usb reconognised by Xp , (mouses wireless works
fine, usb
acteck portatil speakers, hub usb 2.0 generic, and several hard disk external
usb)

Erick, sorry my english

I've only been using USB devices so these are the ones giving me the trouble.
I don't know if other devices would as well but I would assume they would.
Before this started happening I was installing a number of different
software. Possibly Nokia PC suite was one of the later software programs I
installed. I have the automatic updates turned on so all Microsoft updates
are downloaded and installed. I submitted a help request to Microsoft but
haven't yet received a reply.
