It is really very odd that Microsofts own hardware products do not provide
real driver support for Windows Vista. How can they expect other
manufacturers to do so if they aren't doing it themselves?

I have a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2 and Wireless Desktop
Elite Keyboard - they are now running with generic keyboard and mouse
drivers. This means that all of the extra features these products have are
not supported.

I have tried isntallign the available packages but they refuse to install.

There might be a command line to have the installer ignore OS version - does
anyone know what that is?

Not offhand, report the bug to MSFT. I doubt they actually make the
things or write the drivers though that will be farmed out somewhere.
Use a PS2 Mouse & Keyboard with Vista if you have problems with the
trick stuff. It will get sorted for the final release.

I am using vintage Win95 KB & Mouse with PS2 adaptors no problems at
all.

Try right clicking the setup file, if you are brave, select
Properties>Compatibility Mode>Run this....Windows XP. This may do two
things for you, a.)give you what you want or b.)screw up things so bad that
you may go psychotic. B is very much an option so proceed with caution.

The mouse and keyboard are working fine - at the same level as your old
devices. But, the Intellimouse and Keyboard have many features and none of
these work now.

I'm using the Intelipoint 5.5 software with my Laser 6000 set, only one
problem with the zoom (reported). Everything else seems to work.
I don't remember how I installed it, it's been a while, but I couldn't have
had too much in the way of trouble doing it.

Are you talking about this in Windows Vista? I
thought there were previous posts that said the
Intellipoint 5.5 software would not install in
Vista.

Yup, Vista it is.

I am sure he means that the hardware is installed with generic drivers and
works with minimal features.

I just tried this - I choose compatibility with XP SP2. I get to a screen
which asks me to choose which mouse I am installing. I strongly suspect that
a list is supposoed to be displayed, but none is displayed and I can
therefore not continue.

If by "he" you mean me, then that's not quite right about the drivers,
although maybe I shouldn't say that, you tell me if these are generic.

Mouse:
Driver Date 01/12/05
Version 5.5.661.0
Driver details show a couple of new drivers alongside the 5.5 ones,
6.0.5384.4

As I said, all is working as it should except for the zoom feature, it keeps
on zooming out, almost to the microscopic level.

Keyboard:
Driver shows as a later version, must be in vista, 6.0.5384.4
Everything works, even the zoom

Yeah, there are also posts that say Vista does not install....

I am running Intellimouse and Intellitype on Vista 64. I isntalled the XP 64
version of the apps, which are not the newest, but they allow me to control
all the functions. I installed in compatibility mode...like I have done for
all software I have installed.
