Are the drivers for CD burners specific for the application
(software) or for the burner itself(hardware)?
If possible, e-mail to (e-mail address removed)

Hi,

Drivers are specific to the hardware. The application uses the installed
drivers to when the program is run. What seems to be the problem?

Sorry, responses are made to Newsgroups only for the
benefit of all readers. The software that accompanies the
CD-burner contains the drivers to operate the peripheral
(burner) but also contain information/txt files for
instructions on how to install and how to operate the
burner. Most have programs on how to create music/MP3
CDs, music libraries and other CD related programs. Some
even include a Screensaver or how to create a slideshow
or photo album. It all depends on the manufacturer and
how bad he wants to sell his product.

My problem:
I uninstalled the CD-ReWriter app that came with the
Toshiba Laptop and now am told by MS Article #314060 that
it will not recognise the CD Burner until I edit the
Register or completely re-install everything on the
computer! Don't feel competent to edit Register and
really don't want to lose some of my installed apps.

Darvin, I think you will find that editing the registry is not that
horrific, even the first time. Based on the MS KB Article #314060, your CD
app really got you into a pickle. Re-editing the Registry will get you out
with the least trouble. You will also gain a valuable skill, since registry
screwups can happen at any time, through no fault of your own. I would copy
and paste all the relevent information from MS into a word-processing
document and review it. Post back here if you are unclear on any of it. As I
said before, the registry editing you are about to do is pretty minor. All
you have to do is delete two lines. Good luck!

Hi Darvin,

Make life easy. Go to http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.htm, under section 8 -
Problems - there is a link to a patch that resolves this problem by removing
those two keys for you.
