My PC on XP new install after downloading all MS
recommended drivers is still freezing up. But it was fine
just a week ago before I replaced the HDD and reinstalled
XP. Is there a scanning service I can subscribe to to
find out what is faulty and install the fix?

Tom_in_Fl,

If all was well before the HDD was replaced then:

1. HDD is bad.
2. Cable to/from HDD and other end of cable may be loose or may be on
incorrectly.
3. BIOS limitation for the HDD due to size.

New HDD checks out fine. Cables are tight and new. Bios
will handle larger than the 120 G I installed.

Right click on the My Computer icon > Properties > Click
on the Hardware tab > Device manager button.
Use this to find any disfunctional hardware - and you can
update the drivers from here as well (right click >
properties).
