Have you tried this?

The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products from your
computer.

I tried this ,but gives me an error and tells me that norton antivirus 9 or
later is instaled ..I uninstalled it weeks ago and there is nothing in add
and remove for me to delete or uninstall i wonder if it is hidden somewhere

Well, you probably have a bad entry in your registry.

Do a search of your computer for any files and/or folders
that say "norton" or "symantec", delete them.

Then, you could use regedit and do a search through your registry
for "norton" and "symantec" entries, then delete any you come
across. Just keep pushing the "F3" key to go to the next entry
until it tells you it's finished searching the registry.

Or, and use extreme caution with this.
Download Crap Cleaner.
http://www.ccleaner.com/

It has a registry cleaner. You'll see an "Issues" button, that's the
registry cleaner. Run it and look through what it finds, searching
for any "Norton" or "Symantec" references. Check those and select fix.
Crap Cleaner will offer to make a backup, I'd do it.. just in case. If you
want to "fix" all the other entries, that's your choice. But be careful.
Registry cleaners can be helpful but can also be dangerous. One good
thing about Crap Cleaner's registry cleaner is that it doesn't do as deep
a scan as some cleaners do. It hasn't ever caused me any problems
(I only use it as a last resort) but YMMV.

Take care,

Michael

Also, use "msconfig" to see if anything relating to Norton
is in your Startup, uncheck it if.

Lastly, look in Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
to see if anything relating to Norton or Symantec are listed to run,
stop the service and set to "disable" if you find anything.

Many times, the only way to get rid of anything Norton/Symantec is to nuke
your system and start fresh.

Unfortunately, that can be so true.

michael! thank you for that link! i've been searching the symantec removal
tool site & have been unsucessful in finding it. i just tried again, from
the home page, & still can't get to it. i am glad i look thru this
newsgroup! i remembered finding this tool awhile ago; probably recommended
from a newsgroup.

using new dell desktop, vista home premium. my reason for wanting this tool,
is dell installed a 30 day trial version of norton 2007 internet security.
(even though i selected no antivirus when building machine) i plan, when it
expires, to remove the norton & install another plain antivirus, & use
windows firewall, phishing & windows mail junk filters.

thank you DRVNGUY! for how you used the tool:

thank you all!

You're welcome, Leonard.

But, all I did was enter "norton uninstaller" into Google,
and that was the first result that came back.
"norton removal tool" or "symantec removal tool" would have
given you the same, too.

Take care,

Michael

found it! you were right! at the symantec site, entered with quotes "norton
removal tool". selected support from search's drop down menu, & it was
found!
thank you all again!
