no driver is listed though.

crashes often occur while using internet explorer or mp3
player, although not always.

tried removing recently installed software - no driver
updates needed from any vendors, though. please help.

First, be sure your antivirus software has the latest definitions and run a
virus scan.

Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, look for
errors corresponding to the crash, double click the error, the information
contained within may give a clue as to the
source of the problem.

Assuming you have an XP CD and not a recovery CD, place the XP CD in the
drive, when the setup screen appears, select "Check System Compatibility,"
the report it generates may point to problem hardware or software on your
system. If you do not have an XP CD, you can download this application
known as the Upgrade Advisor from the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/howtobuy/upgrading/advisor.asp
Note: If you have access to a broadband connection it might be best to
download using that as this is a rather large download.

Check for the latest drivers for your hardware, especially your graphics
card and soundcard and all peripherals connected to your system. No not use
Windows Update for this, go to the device manufacturer's web sites and if
you install updated drivers, ignore the message about drivers being unsigned
by Microsoft.

There are issues between previous versions of Easy CD Creator and XP. The
issues do not exist in Version 6 and Version 5 with the latest updates as
well making sure that Take Two is not installed in Version 5. Take Two is
not a part of Version 6. As to whether unpatched or non-compatible versions
would cause this specific error, I can't be sure but they certainly led to
crashing and loss of drive functionality.

Hello,

First time poster here. You all are invaluable and I have gleaned useful
knowledge here....Thank you for your time.

I am having similar problems as the poster below. Per Michael's instructions
I had inserted the XP CD and ran the "Check System Compatibility,". This is
what I received...

"The option to upgrade will not be available at this time because Setup was
unable to load the file D:\i386\WINNTUPG\NETUPGRD.DLL. The system cannot
find the file specified."

Can someone tell me what's up here please...this should all be on the CD
right? or is it searching a file on my hard drive that is missing??

Best Regards, Trev
