Hello all - I've been plagued by this problem ever since I
installed Windows XP Home and - at the same time - went
from dial-up to DSL. I get disconnected from the internet
every time I use my computer, sometimes it's after 15
minutes, sometimes after 3 hours. Each time I get
disconnected before I shut down I get a blue screen with
the message listed in my subject. After that it reads:
STOP:0x048B156E, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0xFC0E061B
USBPORT.SYS - Address FC0ED61B base at FC0DA000, date
Stamp 3f04cf17
MS says there's a driver update for my NVIDIA Lanta/Lanta
LT driver but when I try to update it I get the message
that it has not been checked by Microsoft & am advised not
to download it. When I bought my WinXP off eBay, I had no
idea that OEM meant I would not be able to receive support
from MS & I really can't afford it, especially if there's
a relatively easy fix - can anyone help me?? Thanks so
much to anyone for their assistance!!!

In the incorrect order.... you have an nVidia Vanta card (not Lanta)... the
latest drivers are available from www.nvidia.com

For the first problem, it sounds like you have a problem with your USB
drivers. Is the DSL modem connected to the USB port?

Yikes! You're absolutely correct, it's Vanta (I feel real
stupid right now!) I've gone to nvidia.com but can't find
my driver - Vanta/Vanta LT, it looks like snazzier
versions so I'm afraid of what I don't know & don't want
to just downloand any old thing ... My DSL modem is
connected via Ethernet, a D-Link with extra ports that
connects to my CPU via the USB in the back. This is the
first time I'm actually trying to fix something myself -
am not a techie by any means, just beginning to learn this
stuff. It's been pure h*ll trying to figure out this
problem. Thanks so much for your response & any advice you
can spell out for a novice would be greatly appreciated!

From here, highlight Graphics Driver, GeForce and TNT, then WindowsXP/2000
and then click Go. Unfortunately the Vanta card is the bottom of the range,
so it's never going to be brilliant! But those drivers are the correct
ones...

As for the USB, it could be that the PC is turning off power to the USB
port..... (which it does by default to save power)... right click on My
Computer, select Properties. From the Hardware tab, click on Device
Manager.... Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers line and
doubleclick on it.... for each USB Root Hub, click on them and in the Power
Management tab, UNCHECK the box.
