I finally have my new (refurbished) computer running. I do have one final
problem. I guess I created this one myself., However.

The computer came with WinXP Home Edition. I upgraded to WinXP Pro. After
doing so, I noticed the buttons on my mutlli-media keyboard did not work.
So I contacted Compaq Presario and downloaded the latest driver
(SP23978.exe). When I installed it, it made the computer run incredibly
slow. I mean like more than 10 minutes to boot up! When I read the
instructions (yes...AFTER I tried the install..)...) it said the driver
would not work if the OS was upgraded. I called Compaq and spoke to someone
and they said they have no driver for XP Pro. Although it did say on their
web site that the driver was for XP Home and XP Pro...? Compaq says it
won't work cause I upgraded... I don't get it..?

Can some one help...again..?

I know of no difference between XP Pro and Home that would affect the
keyboard. I suggest you uninstall the keyboard and then reinstall it.

Thanks for the reply. I have uninstalled it three times. Each time I get
the same problem, which is the computer becomes so slow, almost to a stop.
(I even tried installing the driver in safe mode... no change) Compaq said I
should call Microsoft and purchase a driver..? I'm sure the drivers aren't
cheap...are they...?

I didn't know that Microsoft sold software by the driver. Most drivers
are written by the company that makes the hardware. If the keyboard is
made by Compaq, then it should provide the driver. If a default driver
will work, then it should already be in Windows.
