Windows Update Manager today found and installed a new driver for my C_MEDIA
CMI8738 / C3DX (on board) sound chip on motherboard ASUS A7V266-E. This
update solved my "mike recording" problem.

Inexplicably, this update has been reversed in my system, after just one
re-start.(New driver easily identified, it included a new "mixer" panel
which features a "mike boost" setting, not available on the "old"
driver/mixer).

PROBLEM - I cannot find the download from Microsoft (I don't know the file
name). MS Update history only says the "C-Media update installed" - no
identification as to what it is called. Nor can I find it on the MS Update
site. (I cannot find the correct driver on the C_Media site, either). All I
know is that it was a recent update for C_Media released by Microsoft.

I've spent 6 hours searching - H E L P please !!

Len, you could try Driver Rollback to "go back" to the driver that you
liked and that was rousted by another version.

May want to try a search at Windows Catalog for driver updates that were
offered at Windows Update site. To get there, open Windows Update. If you
have Windows Update Catalog in the left sidebar, click on it and then use
the controls on the resulting pages to try and track down that update.

If you do not see Windows Update Catalog in the left sidebar, click on the
Personalize link and use the choices on the next page to add it. Save the
changes and return to the main update page to use that new link.
