Have AIW9700 pro and gigabyte GA-7VAXP mobo with onboard ac97 sound. now
after getting the latest driver from ATI there is no more sound, sound
driver did have exclamation points at one point but now there are none and
ive tried latest ac97 sound drivers from realtek but still no sound. What
on the ati card would stop the onboard sound? Checked bios to make sure
that some how the sound didn't get turned off at the bios level but this
sucks having no sound and the prospect of a reformat.

I also did the ATI clean up program or whatever its called to completely
remove all traces of the ATI driver from my system and then reinstalled the
driver again with still no sound.

Please help!

Thanks

Last time I updated that happened to me. Check under control panel,
sounds, and make sure the volume muted is not checked ...Hope that is
it!

Thanks for your reply, I checked that and the sound card is not listed under
devices at all.

just did a repair install of xp and now my video card is not listed and it
can't be upgraded by selecting drivers or anything. Its not even listed in
device manager. So I guess its time for a format.

Try Add New Hardware in control panel.
