I have just ordered a Hightech ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Iceq 128MB TV-Out DVI
Twin View Retail Box.

This is to replace a Geforce 4 Ti4600.

I'm new to modern ATI cards, and my question is simple. I have downloaded
two driver alternatives as follows;

Catalyst Windows XP 4.2, and

Omega 2.5.22 for Win2K/XP

I'm working on the assumption that no-one anywhere ever actually uses the
supplied drivers...

My system is Win XP, P4 2.4c @ 2.9, 1Gb PC3200 RAM and two monitors (19" CRT
& 17" TFT).

I use the system for playing UT2003, UT2004 demo etc and video encoding.

I will definitely be overclocking the graphics card, hence the reason I'm
paying just over £200 to get a card with a good cooling solution built in.

Simple question. Which driver should I load up for my shiny new precious?

Thanks

Martin

It think most everyone uses the latest ATI drivers and has no trouble. To
get the real info for all things ATI, look on the forums at:

Hi,
well funnily enough I have *Only* used CD supplied drivers,

Sapphire 9800 (CAT v3.7)
Sapphire 9600XT (CAT v3.10)
Sapphire 9600 (CAT v3.9)

all systems work fine, that's the reason I never got around to upgrading
them :)

I would say..omega.. generally higher image quality then standard ati
drivers. Oh don't let others tell you to install DNA drivers... the
guy who makes them is in discredit with ati... and with a reason.

I agree. Try Omega. If they do cause problems, then uninstall and try
the official ones. However, I've never had any trouble with them.

Thanks, I'll give the Omega a blast. As you say, I can always pull them if I
hit a problem.
