I have just made the jump and bought a 9800Pro and I will be scraping my
MX420. How important is it to delete the Nvidia drivers? Can I just
install the new card and then go through to remove all Nvidia files and reg
keys?

Thanks

Remove all Nvidia stuff first. After you uninstall the Nvidia drivers
normally get "Nasty File Remover" and have it search for Nvidia stuff
and remove them.

Will my nvidia graphics card still work after a fashion while I am removing
its drivers then? Presumably it will act as a general adaptor?

1. Remove drivers. (now in VGA mode)
2. Remove card.
3. Install new card.
4. Install current drivers from web site (moldy on disk that comes with
card)
If you don't do it in this order, conflicts result where you might not see
anything on your PC, which is why step 1 is *very* important, even with just
updating the drivers on a card.

Remove the NVidia driver BEFORE installing the Radeon.
I usually do the cleanup after physical installation of the new card but
before installing new drivers. It's a bit inconvenient working in 640 x
480/800 x 600 and 256 colours, but not impossible. If you maximise windows
that won't fit your screen, they'll then fit.
